First published in 1894 and revised by the author for the 25th edition in 1931, the Historical Geography has been treasured ever since by scholars, travellers, students and statesmen. General Allenby studied it almost daily during his Palestine campaign in the Fisrt World War, and the original maps played a decisive role in the drawing of the boundaries of the Mandated Teritory after the war.
