This is the true and powerful story of Theodor Herzl.
The events depicted in this comic are entirely based on historical facts
In 1891 Theodore Herzl leads a bourgeois life in Vienna while Jews suffer from anti-Semitism and pogroms in Eastern Europe. A Viennese daily, offers him a job as correspondent in Paris. He has no idea of the consequences for him and for the whole world of his stay in Paris.
“In the history of the Jewish people, few people have been the subject of such heated controversy as Theodore Herzl. Representative in Paris of the prestigious Austrian daily "Die Neue Freie Presse", he covers political and literary news in the capital. He witnesses the degradation of Captain Dreyfus, wrongly accused of treason. Some have claimed that this dishonorable spectacle was the origin of Herzl's Zionist project. But the chronology of events, as well as the testimony of his close collaborators and especially that of Herzl himself totally contradicts this interpretation. Indeed, at the very beginning of his Diary, Herzl wonders about the reasons for his engagement and he writes: “It's an enigma! It is apparently unconscious.”. It is this unconscious that Abraham Bliah fervently "transcribed" and I hope that his album will lead the reader to pursue a relationship with this collective identity that runs through the life and work of Theodore Herzl.
